Why translation?

You may be wondering why I switched careers to the translation industry. Why did I embark on a business where the competition is fierce, at a time when the market seems to be dominated by online machine translators and artificial intelligence? I would say, quite simply, to put a human face on an industry that may appear dehumanised to some. Behind the robots, there will always be a need for human beings. The world will always need human beings, unless, blinded by our short-sighted view, we endanger ourselves by not fighting hard enough against global warming, which clearly puts the existence of humanity at risk.

This purely anthropic motivation has never been the only reason why I ventured into the world of translation. Cultural considerations have also played a major role. Culture has always been one of my passions. I am a movie buff, a reader I would like to be more assiduous, a lover of music, history and sport (yes, sport is a form of culture, whatever some grumpy people might say), and I wanted to share these hobbies through words.

And what about languages, you might ask? I have always been fond of languages, enjoyed communicating with others and discovering people from different backgrounds! Starting with English or German at junior high school. This passion has never wavered and has continued to grow as I met new people and travelled abroad, particularly to Ireland and Denmark. I never wanted to limit myself to English. Bolstering and experiencing cultural diversity have always been one of my motivations. A monolingual world would be so boring! «United in diversity» is the motto of the European Union. That’s why I thought it was fantastic to be able to learn Scandinavian languages like Danish and Norwegian, not forgetting Breton, the language of some of my ancestors. This Celtic language connects me to my forefathers’ past and allows me to look to the future with confidence. A tree needs deep roots to grow sturdy branches!

So now you know why I decided to go into the world of translation. I hope you will join me on a fabulous journey through words very soon!

See you soon! À bientôt ! Vi ses!
